HoR Election Countdown: 90 Days Remaining as EC Intensifies Preparations

Kathmandu: With just 90 days left for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has accelerated its preparations for the national poll.
Political parties have also begun ramping up their internal processes, placing the upcoming election at the centre of their organizational activities.
As part of its election timeline, the EC will begin advancing procedures related to the proportional representation (PR) electoral system from Saturday, December 6. According to the schedule, political parties must submit their applications for participation under the PR system on December 7, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
The list of parties submitting applications will be made public on December 10.
Parties will then be required to submit their closed lists of PR candidates on December 28–29, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The final closed list will be published on January 20, 2026, EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed.
Under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) schedule, candidate nominations will be registered on January 20, with the candidate list published on the same day. Objections can be filed on January 21, and the updated list will be published on January 22.
Candidates wishing to withdraw their nominations may do so on January 23. The final list of contestants will be published the same day, followed by the distribution of electoral symbols.
